Project & Release Manager

£40,000 to £55,000 / Newcastle upon Tyne / Jan 16, 2019

Our client is a highly successful internet business, with a user base several million strong, that has approximately doubled in size every year for the past three and is now looking for a skilled Project & Release Manager to strengthen their team, based North of Newcastle.

A unique role opportunity where you will be responsible for the planning and delivery of their Client development teams whilst leading the Release Management lifecycle and processes, this includes scheduling, coordinating and the management of releases. The releases can be inclusive of application updates, content, projects and programs. You’ll provide services to help product management and project teams manage and deploy releases.

Responsibilities, Project Manager duties:

  • Lead the operational planning and execution of the company’s client development team, working with the team to ensure project planning goals are structured & progress is reported internally, escalating issues as required
  • Manage the development process from concept through prototyping, development & release to live operation, ensuring the right team members are assigned & motivated
  • Manage approvals & sign off process with external stakeholders, ensuring timely production of materials in order to achieve this
  • Support the CDO & key stakeholders to ensure design, quality & timing goals are effectively communicated within the entire development team
  • Maintain high working efficiency within teams by addressing all blocking issues in a timely manner
  • Work with client leads to ensure the team has the right resources and equipment to meet expected deliverables and deadlines
  • Help co-ordinate 3rd party resource providers of services to ensure deliveries mesh in with the internal requirements & pipelines
  • Work closely with the User Group through the product life cycle to ensure that all user requirements are planned and delivered
  • Aware of & responsible for tracking commercial goals across the project lifecycle
Responsibilities, Release Manager duties:
  • With the CDO and Product Owner, forward plan the release cycles for the app
  • Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities
  • Coordinate release content with the PM group and other stakeholders
  • Measure and monitor progress to ensure app releases are delivered on time and that they meet or exceed expectations
  • Manage risks and resolve issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
  • Communicate all key project plans, commitments, and changes including requirements, QA plans, schedule, and scope changes
  • Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations
  • Conduct Release Readiness reviews and Business Go/No-Go reviews
  • Lead and co-ordinate the Go-Live activities including the execution of the deployment Plans and checklists
  • Co-ordinate 1st party submissions
  • Communicate release status details weekly and schedules to the Business as required
  • Work with release engineers to understand impacts of branches and code merges
  • With the CDO, maintains the release schedule and ensure alignment across key stakeholders
  • Continually work towards making improvements in the release process
Required skills and experience:
  • Agile scrum master experience and managed the development process within a mobile client group.
  • Have experience of managing a technical team no smaller than 10 people.
  • The ability and experience to start a project management processes from scratch and the skills to enhance and develop existing processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences on a broad range of topics: technical, business and creative
  • Self-starter with superior time management, project management and organizational skills
  • Multiple platform experience
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making ability
  • Ability to motivate team, provide clear direction, and give insight on industry trends
  • Team building and leadership skills, capable of inspiring and motivating to maximize team performance
  • Strong accountability in managing the delivery process within a mobile client group
  • The experience to define a delivery process system from scratch and the skills to enhance and develop this on an ongoing basis
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences on a broad range of topics: technical, business and creative
