Health Economist

£30,000 to £40,000 / Newcastle upon Tyne / Jun 4, 2019

Our client is a truly pioneering, VC-backed Health Technology company, now entering a new and tremendously exciting phase of its development, having very recently secured significant Series A funding to accelerate its growth to a long-term sales target of £1.5bn, marketing a suite of early diagnostic tests via insurers and an ecosystem of partners.

As a member of a highly experienced, lean and visionary team aiming to transform lives by diagnosing disease early, this role is primarily concerned with designing strategic plans and health economic assessments for specific new technologies or products developed by the company.  Maximising profits by finding efficient ways to do business and increase exposure and profit from marketing.
Your responsibilities as Health Economist will include: 
  • Develop program objectives, strategies and study methods on health care
  • Design and execute research studies to guide effective use of information and resources
  • Lead and direct plans to calculate various costs related to health care
  • Utilise research programs on health economic topics
  • Suggest new health outcomes for treatment and prevention of health issues
  • Evaluate current and proposed strategies and interpret findings
  • Pro-actively identify market access opportunities for the organisation through effective planning and development of financially sound business proposals
  • Contribute to strategic discussions/market access planning processes to enhance the effectiveness of implementation of corporate strategies
  • Communicate economic assessment results to appropriate internal and external audiences
  • Develop and execute health economic issues and methods to reduce cost
  • Perform economic analysis and model plans for health-care programs   
  • Communicate and distribute academic literature, presentations and reports on research findings to update about new issues, solutions and other topics
  • Provide lectures or educational sessions to educate about health economics
  • Manage budget and cost estimates according to plans
  • Manage business relationships with all healthcare provider partners including doctors, patients, economists, etc and academic body partners including organisations such as AHSN etc
  • Regular travel to UK clinical sites
  • Potential travel to international clinical sites
  • Occasional travel to national and international conferences
As Health Economist you’ll be/need:
  • Degree in health economics, health policy / similar field of study
  • Solid health economic experience in diagnostics or a related health area
  • Fluent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in successful implementation of plans and achievement of objectives
  • Possess strong leadership and management skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Strong orientation to team work
  • Ability to handle pressure, complex situations and problem-solving
  • Ability to think analytically and strategically
  • Clear understanding of the UK health care system and associated health economic models
  • Good understanding of the subject of health economics and international relations
  • Right balance of mathematical and analytical aptitude to comprehend the economic aspects thoroughly
  • Excellent research skills and ability to analyse findings to make appropriate use
  • Understand and apply mathematical concepts
  • Good organizational, IT and administrative skills
  • Experience of use of MS Office software, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database software

Additionally desirable:
  • Masters/PhD in health economics, health policy / similar field of study
  • Understanding of the health care systems in the USA and Europe
  • Abreast with national economic policies and their impact on the health-care sector
  • A clean UK driving licence

Salary range: up to £40,000
