Catalyst Recruitment - People + Progress

Senior Financial Controller

£75,000 to £95,000 / London / Dec 6, 2019

Great opportunity for a progressive Financial Controller, or similar, to join an successful, entrepreneurial and high growth, £4m, Newcastle upon Tyne based business at a pivotal stage in its development and during the next stage of its journey, further to its recent acquisition by a high-performing FTSE 100 company that’s no.1 in its field.

Enjoy the benefits of being a key member of the operational management team of a small but fast growing and independent business, together with the amazing support and resources of a larger, listed organisation that's superbly positioned to further accelerate growth.

This role is ideal for a hands-on, commercially-driven accountant looking to make an impact, overseeing and getting involved with all areas of the finance function and wider business, 'rolling sleeves up' to get the job done where needed.

Working closely with the CEO/MD and head office, key aspects and requirements of the Senior Financial Controller role include:

• Providing strong commercial input in respect of the company's relationship with its key insurance supplier
• Contributing to the improvement of operational performance - including active interest in sales, the sales process and use of technology to drive efficiency
• Quarterly forecasting of revenue, costs and KPIs
• Preparation of annual three year business plan
• Ensuring timely month management reporting
• Review and commentary for the monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow
• Implementation of robust internal control environment, in line with the requirements of a FTSE 100 business and appropriate to the size of the business, including full month-end close, reconciliation, review and approval processes
• Development and maintenance of the company's risk register
• Setting up a finance structure that is scalable for the future growth trajectory
• Supporting the development of a part-qualified accountant and looking to expand the team over time as required
• Assisting or leading commercial contract negotiations in particular in relation to cost areas
• Driving finance process and system improvements

As Senior Financial Controller you will need:

• Solid, progressive experience, ideally gained in similar well-rounded, Financial Controller, Finance Manager or Finance Director type role, perhaps with a dynamic SME
• Proven commercial acumen gained in Insurance broking, preferably recently and property related - a practical understanding loss ratios, pricing, profitability, FCA regulation, reporting and compliance
• Ideally, a recognised accounts qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
• Flexibility to work in Newcastle for 3 - 4 days per week from a base in/near London
• Knowledge of IFRS accounting preferred
• Strong communication skills
• Knowledge of Xero accounting system useful but not essential
• Flexibility to travel to parent offices – approx. one day per month

Please note: High levels of interest mean we will only contact you if your application is shortlisted and this will happen within five working days. You must also be eligible to work in the UK.
