Our client is a relatively large, complex and profitable business, multi-faceted and historically embedded in the North East region, recently putting property investment and development at its core and still significantly invested in its more traditional enterprises. It has £ten-figure net assets and generates £eight-figure profit before tax.  We are looking to recruit a Financial Controller to this very challenging and rewarding role.

Reporting to and supporting the Group Financial Controller in maintaining robust financial information, managing day to day book-keeping, preparation of management and year end accounts, business partnering departmental, your main responsibilities as Financial Controller will include:

·           Preparation and review of month end reports for Group Financial Controller and Business Partners

·           Overseeing day to day book-keeping activities and invoice processing, ensuring accuracy of reporting

·           Supervise, manage and support development of two direct (and indirect) reports

·           Preparation and review of month end balance sheet reconciliations

·           Maintenance and review of fixed asset registers, property and development ledgers, debtor ledgers and creditor ledgers

·           Preparation and review of VAT returns

·           Update of monthly cash flow forecasts

·           Preparation of year end audit packs and assistance with audit queries

·           Ensure compliance with internal controls policies

·           Assist and support the team with business case preparation

·           Support and assist business partners across the Traditional Estate

·           Other adhoc items as requested


As Financial Controller you’ll need:

  • Strong financial leadership and managerial experience, likely working as a Financial Controller, Head of Finance, Finance Manager or similar. Demonstrable success in system and process improvement also advantageous.
  • Fully qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
  • Attention to detail, conscientious, organised and energetic
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships
  • Excellent IT literacy
  • Willing to be flexible in respect to day to day duties and hours worked
