Financial Controller

Our client is a £10m income charitable organisation improving the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of our communities, including caring for people with profound disabilities, children, older people and those living on the margins of society. It’s looking to recruit a business and commercially-minded Financial Controller with genuine potential and desire to progress to Finance Director within five years.  

As Financial Controller, reporting to the organisation’s highly experienced Finance & IT Director, you will be leading and developing, both strategically and operationally, the finance function, business and commercial activities to maximise income generation and improve market position.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the finance function and providing effective management of finances including: management, supervision and mentoring of the finance team ensuring effective delegation so that all finance tasks are performed on a timely basis, including the production of management information
  • Oversight and implementation of the Five Year Plans, including commercial assessment and implementation of additional business opportunities as and when they arise
  • Reviewing the efficacy of activities and instilling positive change  
  • Generation of new income streams where appropriate and providing support to all managers in optimising the financial outcomes of their services      
  • Production of an annual business strategy to support marketing, communication, financial and digital departments to ensure a commercial perspective to every business aspect of the business
  • Supporting the CEO and directorate team with ad-hoc project work, including fundraising and preparation of grant and fundraising applications
  • Supporting the Director of HR with the quarterly staff association meetings with a view of representing these teams at Board level in due course
  • Developing a high-end customer service culture throughout
  • Developing beneficial external networking opportunities

To fulfil the duties of Financial Controller you will need to possess and/or demonstrate:

  • Strong experience gained in a similar role – Financial Controller, Finance Manager, Finance Supervisor, Senior Accountant/Auditor, Senior/Lead Management Accountant
  • Recognised accounting qualification from ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, CIPFA or equivalent. Nearly qualified and QBE will be considered.
  • Extensive commercial, creative and analytical acuity, together with high integrity eg. following instruction, policies and procedures
  • Professionalism, confidence, an outcome-focused approach, drive and determination
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Digital aptitude
  • The ability to manage and prioritise several activities simultaneously and flexibly
  • A professional, friendly, positive approach, treating people with dignity and respect,


Rewards and benefits:

  • £30,000 to £45,000 salary, plus benefits
  • To secure maximum salary, you must possess all outlined higher level experience, skills and knowledge
  • Full time (35hrs/week) permanent role
  • Flexible working based on “normal office hours” and work from home (approx. 60% office based)
