Senior Buyer/Planner

Successful, growing and well established specialist engineering company manufacturing metal components and structures, serving global customers in oil and gas, health, aerospace and more, requires Senior Buyer/Planner to further its development and growth as a business.

As Senior Buyer/Planner you will be responsible for a variety of activities encompassing the purchasing and planning of materials, outside services, supplies and equipment, Including with supplier relationship management and negotiations.

Your duties will include:

  • Maintaining, implementing and improving appropriate purchasing systems and documentation
  • Overseeing Demand and Resource Planning, collaborating with Commercial teams to update demand plans
  • Communicating and collaborating with internal customers (i.e. Production, Quality, Warehouse, etc.) to ensure supplier materials, parts, and/or services are obtained to meet schedule requirements while sustaining optimal inventory levels 
  • Preparing and placing purchase orders, verifying specifications and price
  • Highlighting demand/supply issues, escalating issues to the appropriate decision maker(s) where required 
  • Tracking, evaluating, and implementing supplier cost, quality and delivery performance and improvement initiatives via multiple metrics
  • Managing finished goods inventory levels and associated parameters (e.g. safety stock) to ensure on time delivery while staying within inventory plans
  • Creating internal sales orders aligned with the replenishment plans
  • Sourcing, negotiating, and securing quotes from suppliers to obtain most favorable prices and services consistent with quality requirements
  • Providing leadership in a team environment, including providing expertise in the evaluation of supplier performance
  • Supporting safety, lean and similar initiatives 


As Senior Buyer/Planner you’ll need:

  • Strong experience and track record of achievement in Procurement, Sourcing, Materials or Supply Chain Management as Buyer and/or Production Planner, responsible for Purchasing/Buying/Planning – ideally gained in an engineering/lean manufacturing environment
  • A high standard of general and professional education, ideally with CIPS qualification
  • Proficient in Office and ERP/MRP systems
  • Positive and proactive with excellent interpersonal skills
